Training that cuts through

Equipping those who serve the public — and those who work with them.

My training programs are built for real-world challenges. I focus on the skills that matter most when outcomes are complex, time is short, and delivery is under pressure. More than competency-based training, this is experiential education. Encouraging participants to think differently and apply the principles.

Whether you’re in government or working with it, there are programs relating to your needs and perspectives.

It happens to everyone. Our Rapid Readiness programs are designed for exactly that situation. A 1.5-day blend of tailored training and focused advisory designed for urgent uplift of small teams. Ideal for complex negotiations, delivery pressures, or pursuits.

Critical writing

Making your arguments clearer, sharper, and defensible — especially under pressure. Learn how to engage with stakeholders and develop a complex paper quickly. Deal with the objections, build stronger solutions, and deliver readable, logical papers that allow wise decisions by executives.

Negotiations and influence in government

Negotiations aren’t something you do as part of procurement. They are a way of thinking differently, engaging internally and externally, avoiding disagreement and building long term sustainable outcomes with willing parties. From the individual to the international agreement.

Insight into industry

Perspectives matter and the reality is that most public servants have not had the experiences to allow balanced perspectives of industry. Discover how different companies are structured and why it matters. Explore governance and how decisions are made, and how it affects the buyer. Understand cost, pricing, margins and behaviours. Learn how to engage for better outcomes.

Managing contracted service delivery

Negotiated the contract and you’re in delivery. The contract processes are followed but disappointment is setting in, relationships begin to decay. It is a common story. Contract administration is not delivery management, Compliance matters but delivery needs more. Learn how to recognise the signs, deal with disagreement, manage complex relationships, have radical conversations.

Masterclass in commercial acumen

The flagship commercial program, delivered over 2-3 days, typically face to face. Integrate, negotiations, insight into industry, and managing contracted service delivery into a continuous and integrated program. Ideal for those in procurement, and contracted project or service delivery roles.

Masterclass in practical practices

The flagship capability uplift program for public servants. Based around consulting industry best practices, participants explore problem solving, the Pyramid Principle, SCQA, an exposure to industry insights, insights into negotiation persuasion and influencing techniques. Information presentation and graphical design insights lifting those who have little experience of such things. It is the toolbox for the effective desk officer.

Pursuits, tendering and deal making

Learn what it takes to get to the negotiating table. From the simple to the complex, how to position for and write winning tenders to the public sector. Despite popular belief it is not best price, or even best product – its value for money. But few know what comprise value to the public sector. How do you get a large tender written consistently, across countries, cultures and time zones. Hint, it is not by having tech writers review every document, Quality is built in not retrofitted, Unlock the secret.

Negotiating with government

Business to business is simple, but business to government is a difficult cross-cultural negotiation. Learn tools and techniques to manage large internal teams and a complex and challenging client who often doesn’t understand your business or the complexity of delivery. Discover how to engage, how to explain and how to close. Understand their concept of value so you can unlock more value for yourself.

Masterclass in Delivery and Business Leadership

A two-day program designed to take those new to the professional services industry through the good practices. How to engage with clients, how to establish and maintain rapport and trust, hold meaningful meetings, and deal with disagreement. Explore when to engage, how to identify opportunity, and when to escalate. Participants go through a meeting, an initial proposal, build the pricing, negotiate the deal, commence delivery and deal with change. They also explore issues around managing on-site delivery teams, contractors and difficult clients. Two very tiring days!

How I deliver

Masterclasses are delivered in person by me, usually with an assistant. Other programs can be delivered face-face over a day, with a 2-3 hour online preparatory program that maximises opportunity for activities and simulations. An alternative for distributed teams is face-to-screen, delivered as online facilitated programs, usually delivered over 3×2 hour sessions and the preparatory program.

Content can be adapted, and exercises contextualised for a particular client need.

Programs are delivered through my old company Kiah Academy. This allows me to provide a full-service blended offering of online, online facilitated or face to face programs. I am the convenor and author of most of the online programs
